Boating

What do the 150 and 300 m shore zones mean?

On Lakes Thun and Zurich, motorboats are limited to 10 km/h in both shore zones. The difference is what you may enter each zone for.

The two zones

  • Up to 150 m: inner shore zone. Enter only to berth, leave the shore, lie at rest or pass a narrow section, taking the shortest route.
  • From 150 to 300 m: outer shore zone. You may travel parallel to the shore, still at no more than 10 km/h.
  • Local navigation bans, swimming areas and lower speed limits still apply. This explanation does not cover Lake Constance, which has its own navigation regulations.
