Lake Lucerne: can I bring my own boat?

Registration on another Swiss lake is not enough for a visiting boat with a combustion engine. Lake Lucerne requires the appropriate admission entry or a temporary permit.

Registering a visitor boat

  • The canton where you first launch issues the temporary permit. It lasts at most until the end of the following month and cannot be renewed in the same calendar year.
  • Reporting and cleaning when changing waters is a separate process. A visitor permit does not replace launch clearance.

10 km/h further from shore too

  • The shore zone includes the designated Lucerne, Horw and Küssnacht bays as well as the 300 m strip. The 10 km/h limit applies there even further from shore.
  • Use the official chart for the exact boundary. Lucerne’s ordinance defines fixed lines; estimating a 300 m distance is insufficient in these bays.
