Boating on Lake Brienz: what should you check first?
You cannot simply relaunch a boat from Lake Thun on Lake Brienz. Bern’s boat reporting and cleaning scheme treats them as separate water sections.
Before launching
- For a registered boat, report the move online, arrange the required cleaning at an approved station and carry the launch clearance.
- Lake Brienz, the Lütschine and the Aare upstream of the lake form one section. Lake Thun, the Kander and the Simme form another.
On the lake
- With a combustion engine, the limit is 10 km/h within 300 m of shore. Inside the first 150 m, take the shortest route only to land, leave, lie at rest or pass through a narrow passage.
- Waterski and wakeboard only in daylight and clear visibility, no earlier than 8 and no later than 21. Within shore zones, use only authorised launch corridors or designated sports areas.
