Taking a boat to Lake Thun: must it be cleaned?
Registered boats must report changes of waters in the canton of Bern. If you bring a boat from another waterbody to Lake Thun, complete the official authorisation process before launching.
The process
- Report the change online. The platform tells you whether cleaning is required. Exceptions depend on the officially designated waterbody section.
- If required, have the boat and equipment, including the trailer, cleaned by a recognised station. Rinsing it yourself does not replace that certificate.
- Carry the launch authorisation digitally or on paper. Trips within the same defined waterbody section do not need a fresh report.
What about SUPs and kayaks?
- For unregistered equipment, the canton recommends thorough cleaning and drying before every change of waters. This is different from the authorisation process for numbered boats.
