Lake Neuchâtel: where can a boat or SUP approach the shore?

An open stretch of shore on Lake Neuchâtel is not automatically a permitted swimming or anchoring spot. Grande Cariçaie includes protected water areas along the south shore. The bans also apply to SUPs, kayaks and inflatable boats.

Closed area or seasonal access?

  • Yellow buoys and prohibition signs mark closed areas. Some sections are closed year-round; others have seasonal access. The official map distinguishes them. A neighbouring beach does not make the entire bay accessible.
  • Vaud publishes buoy plans for individual sections of the south shore. Open the relevant detailed plan before approaching a new shore location.

Outside closed areas

  • Stay at least 25 m from reeds and other aquatic plants. With an engine, the limit is 10 km/h within 300 m of shore; the first 150 m are not a free route for travelling parallel to shore.
